Yesterday I had a photo of the largest bird in the raptor family, with a wing span of about 6 feet long. Today we have the smallest of the North American Hawks, the American Kestrel. This is quite a colorful bird up close. Not what I would expect to see from a bird of prey. Although, for the birds that make Minnesota their home, it's one of the most colorful birds that I have personally seen around here.I didn't get the information from the volunteer holding the hawk if this bird would be released back into the wild.

I have no idea what it is but it has the size of our "Sparrow Hawks." I am thankful for these places that tend to injured animals.

ReplyDeleteNew to Bird watching. First view of male and female American Kesler about 2 wks. ago. The pair are hanging around and seem to be breeding. This area is mostly ag.with a few tree lines. Place: Fayetteville, Tn 3-1-09
