Performing Arts

This is the Ordway Theater in downtown St Paul, adjacent to the River Center exit in yesterday's photo. If you look close enough, you can see the red squares on the entrance to the River Center.

I went to the Ordway website to get additional information about the center as I've never been inside to see any performances. Or at least not yet in my life. But I had to stop when I saw the link on the Ordway website that says: Were On MySpace! Come visit Ordway Center on MySpace!

Are you freakin' kidding me!?!? The Ordway, Performing Center For the Arts has it's own MySpace page. Does anyone else, besides me, find your top performing arts center in town boasting that they have a MySpace page a bid puzzling? A cry for help perhaps?

  1. Well, if they're trying to get the young'uns interested, maybe having a presence on MySpace is a good idea? I seem to recall that the Zürich Opera ran an ad campaign showing a person in jeans and a comment to the effect of "you don't have to dress up to come to the opera". Don't quote me on that, I'm not too sure I have the details right!

  2. I think z is right. It is probably a way to get a younger crowd interested. Although, I don't know if they can be 'cool' enough for MySpace.

  3. While I will agree with your idea about reaching young people and the ways to communicate with them. I cannot see an 14-18 year old who has their own myspace page thinking that the Ordway being on MySpace is a fabulous idea and being interested in the arts at the Ordway because of it.

My mind wasn't developed enough to care at a young age. I may be wrong though, perhaps it is a smart thing to do for the times.

I personally don't understand the ype about MySpace. The graphics and web designs are horrid and I cannot stand being on an unorganized website.
